Nancy Riese Daly, MS, MPH, Appointed Executive Director of The ASCO Cancer Foundation

ASCO Launches International Cancer Corps

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – In an effort to improve cancer care in underserved regions of the world, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), in partnership with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), today launched a new humanitarian program, the International Cancer Corps (ICC). The ICC will enable member oncologists from ASCO to volunteer their time to teach in medical facilities in developing countries.


ASCO and U.S. Figure Skating Announce Partnership in the Fight Against Cancer

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) announced today a partnership with U.S. Figure Skating to join the fight against cancer. ASCO is the world’s leading professional organization representing physicians who treat people with cancer. ASCO’s patient web site, Cancer.Net (www.cancer.net), will be the public face of the partnership, and will serve as the title sponsor of 2009 Skate America, Nov. 12-15 in Lake Placid, NY. With this new relationship, the fight against all cancers will become an official cause of U.S. Figure Skating.


Research Advances Presented at 2009 Breast Cancer Symposium

SAN FRANCISCO – Five additional studies on the early detection, treatment and evaluation of breast cancer were highlighted today by the co-sponsoring organizations of the 2009 Breast Cancer Symposium. The symposium, occurring this year during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is being held October 8-10, 2009, at the San Francisco Marriott.


The ASCO Cancer Foundation® and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation Announce 2010 Comparative Effectiveness Research Professorship in Breast Cancer

ASCO Calls on Medicare to Abandon Proposed Cuts to Cancer Care

ALEXANDRIA, Va.In formal comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) called on CMS to abandon proposed cuts to reimbursement for physicians who provide cancer care to millions of Medicare patients. The cuts would jeopardize access to care for patients nationwide – more than 80 percent of Americans with cancer receive care from local, community-based oncology practices.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Accepts ASCO Public Service Award Following Ringing of NYSE Closing Bell

NEW YORK – On August 19, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) presented New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg with the Society’s 2009 Public Service Award for his support of tobacco control and dietary health programs. The award was presented to Mayor Bloomberg following the ringing of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Closing Bell by The ASCO Cancer Foundation (TACF) and U.S. Olympic swimmer and cancer survivor, Eric Shanteau.
